My Journey of Healing and Hope: A Personal Appeal by Dionne Voorhies

Dear Friends and Kind Hearts,

My name is Dionne Voorhies. As I look back on my life, especially my fulfilling career in nursing and the happiness it has given me, I find myself in a unique position today. I'm reaching out to you not as a caregiver, but as someone who is in need of your support and care.

My Life in Nursing

After being diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) as a teenager, I decided to dedicate my life to healing others both mentally and physically as a nurse. I’ve been privileged to be part of many recovery stories, offering more than medical care – I’ve shared in the joys and sorrows of my patients, offering empathy and a listening ear in their times of need.

My Family: My Greatest Support

My family has been my rock. My daughter Dailynne, a budding artist and sophomore in college, aspires to be an educator. My son Trey, a quiet soul with a brilliant mind, is pursuing engineering while playing college football. And then there's David, my husband, a U.S. Army veteran, who has been my unwavering pillar of strength for 22 years.

Facing New Challenges

Life has thrown me some curveballs. After battling AIH, I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), and most recently, Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) – liver cancer. Following numerous infusions and radiation, my doctors now say that a liver transplant is critical for my survival.

The Path Ahead

The road to a transplant and recovery is fraught with challenges, including overwhelming medical expenses, caregiver costs, and maintaining our family's daily needs. The journey is daunting, but I am determined to fight for my chance at life.
