Three years ago, my dad (Dina's Donuts - 505 Maxey Rd) was given a diagnosis of stage four cancer. The family was in distraught due to the nature of the cancer and financial situation. We thought hope was lost. I kept my hopes up high and began to talk to others, research what I could and reached out to MD Anderson. Unfortunately, my dad did not meet their requirements and was not able to admit my dad at MD Anderson. I continued my efforts elsewhere. My dad was having complications from a different surgery during this time of uncertainty. So, I ended up taking my dad to Ben Taub as it was a facility that allowed low income families to obtain medical services. After of at least over 24 hours of waiting, he was admitted and was referred to an oncology facility within the Harris County System group of medical providers. Throughout the years of battling the cancer and going through cancer treatments, he has remained optimistic and full of life! My dad and mom are such dedicated people as they continued to operate their Donut Shop as a fantastic duo! However, it appears the cancer does not want to “vacate” my dad’s body and has caused serious illnesses. Through it all, we have remained optimistic! Most recently, my dad had severe complications and I admitted him to a different hospital. Although, it took over 12 hours – my dad, myself and my mom endured the wait together and he was finally admitted!
We are in need of help for my dad's medical, well-being and health expenses.
We are and will remain optimistic of his health! I share this story as I know there are many fans of my dad, my mom and their donut shop! Thank you everyone for all of your support! It is greatly appreciated.
