Dina is a widow and the sole provider for her family in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, one of the poorest countries in the world. After her husband passed away, she was left to raise their three children on her own. Adding to her burden, Dina’s sister also passed away, and Dina now cares for her sister’s two children as well, single-handedly raising all five children.
They currently live in an old, cramped rental house that’s in poor condition and unsuitable for the family. Before his passing, Dina’s husband left her a piece of land in the countryside, and for the past four years, she has been saving tirelessly to build a home for her family. Her dream is not just to create a safe, permanent home for her children but also to complete a second unit on the property that she can rent out to generate a small income to support them.
This completed property would not only act as a pension for Dina, providing her with income as she grows older, but it will also create stability for her children and their future families. By owning this property, Dina’s children will have a valuable asset to rely on—capital that can help them break free from the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures for generations to come.
Thanks to her hard work, the structure has walls, rooms, and a roof, but much still needs to be done to make the house livable. The flooring remains unfinished, electrical wiring must be installed, and the building needs to be secured to withstand the torrential rains of Guinea-Bissau’s rainy season.
As the sole provider, Dina works long hours as a cleaner in multiple homes across the city, but rising living costs make it nearly impossible for her to save enough to complete the house. With no social security system in Guinea-Bissau, her ability to work and continue caring for her family depends entirely on finishing this home. Dina also suffers from mobility challenges due to hip and leg pain, making her physically demanding work even harder.
Please help Dina complete her home so she can provide a safe and stable future for her children.
