On January 15th, Vincent DiMauro was admitted to UCLA hospital for jaundice. Only days earlier, symptoms of fatigue and malaise had started to overwhelm him. After a negative covid test ruled out coronavirus, Vincent was shocked when jaundice (a condition marked by a yellowing of the skin and eyes) appeared. Testing and imaging revealed a mass blocking the bile duct. An emergency surgery used stents in the duct to drain bile. A biopsy of the mass found that it is malignant.
Vincent, a young father of 3, a dedicated husband and friend has Stage 3 Cholangiocarcinoma.
For those of us who are lucky enough to call the DiMauros our friends, we know them as one of the warmest, kindest, and most giving families in our community. The news is devastating to all who know them. Vincent is optimistic and we are all rallying around the family to help them fight this upward battle.
Health care is expensive. Medicine is expensive. We all know this. Currently, Vincent is seeking alternate treatments out of state, which could add out-of-network costs. Vin & Lisa's work has already been and will continue to be disrupted. Additional needs during this difficult time include childcare, meals, laundry, and costs of enrichment. Please consider helping to fund these needs so they can focus on staying positive and well.
**It is important to note that Conrad, Penny & Millie do not yet know about the diagnosis. Please refrain from talking about cancer in front of the kids or your children who may interact with them in or outside of school. Thank you for your understanding. Vin & Lisa will engage the children with time and with grace**
With Love,
Friends of Vin, Lisa, Conrad, Penny & Millie
