Today, February 21, began like any other day. I kissed my parents goodbye on my way to work. My Dad wished me a good day.
Began my workday as usual only to recieve the dreaded call that no one ever wants to be on the receiving end of....& just like that. One of life's biggest game changers hit my family as it has so many others before me.
My Dad would never wish me a good day again. He suffered sudden death as a result of an un-resuscitated heart attack.
Mom dutifully sacrificed her own career to home school both my little sister and I. In an effort to assist with household expenses while I finish college-life, I work a middle management full-time job. Dad was the sole earner for the household and we are at a complete loss of where to begin in regards to the financial obligations in front of us.
The money will go towards ambulance cost, funeral expenses and one month of day to day necessities for the family.
Duty, decency, reliability, honour, dignity, respect: these are all qualities that my father not only held in high esteem, but practiced every day during his time on this earth. He was a serious and disciplined man, but he could never resist the opportunity to have a laugh with friends and loved ones, given half the chance. Dad proudly served his community for nearly a decade and his family was his everything.
I feel it is now my responsibility to show my family they are mine.
Bless.
