Hello friends & loved ones! Thank you so much for taking the time to review our fundraiser page. We know how hectic life can be, so we are grateful for your attention. As of now we are more in need than ever. There have been so many new developments and with those, new needs. We must thank everyone who has so generously donated. It has been an incredible blessing to have so much help from everyone. Unfortunately, we are still far away from our goal. That means that we have find ourselves unable to pay certain bills and unable to continue with our plans. There will be some major life changes happening for our family in the very near future. Everyone has had to make hard choices and come together to make the most of a difficult situation. Fortunately, our love and faith helps along the way. We have no doubt that the people in our lives will help us to come up with what we need to move forward. The best news is that I have continued to make progress. Albeit slow, progress is progress and we are hopeful for more. Day by day, I am a bit stronger and bit more comfortable. We managed to obtain many of the items we needed and that would not have been possible without all the help we received. We were even able to come up with a special shower system. You would be amazed at what is possible with some creativity. It seems, however, that the long term plan is going to have to be a major move in the rather near future. We are once again asking you to consider helping us on our journey towards dignity and safety. Whatever you may be able to give would be gratefully accepted and used appropriately for my continued care. It pains me to ask for help, as I'm sure you know, however I must continue to humble myself and beg for the generosity of all the people in my life. I can assure you that our request for assistance is dire and comes only after much consideration. If you are unable to donate, I am requesting that you send out this link to as many people as you possibly can. When the need is great, the division of such is absolutely essential for success. We cannot do this alone. The more people we can avail upon for their kind donations, the less each person would need to send to make a huge difference for me and my family. We will be adding a list of new necessities in the near future, so as to ensure you all know what the funds have been going towards.

(((Today is Sunday, July 30th, 2023.
On August 1st, just two short days from today, Medicare will demand the unreasonable discharge of a man fighting for dignity and quality of life. Almost exactly one month ago today Ira Rogoff spent almost 8 hours on the floor of his office after an infection spread to his brain. During the first week after his fall, we were unsure if he would survive. Doctors struggled to accurately diagnose & treat the underlying causes of this infection. We thank God for this outcome, regardless of the struggle we face today.
The past month has been a battle of survival and he has managed to beat the odds by regaining his cognitive abilities, fighting past excruciating pain to force strength back into his limbs and continuously progressing through each step of the healing process. This is a man who spent his entire life being a fierce advocate, providing consistently compassionate skilled nursing, primarily in a home-based setting to ensure that each of his patients was able to maintain the highest quality of life in the most dignified manner available. In the last month, he was not often treated with that same standard of care. This hospitalization was particularly difficult and left him with unfortunate (typically preventable) wounds that cause him great discomfort & risk for renewed infection and are still healing. Despite this setback, his time in rehab has been marked by his determination to get well, gain strength and become as independent as possible. With a couple more weeks he might have been able to walk out the front door on his own two feet. However, Medicare doesn't share the same goals as our family and they have refused to pay for his continued recovery through wound care and therapy.
This past Wednesday, July 26th, we were led to believe, by case management, that we were entitled to & would have another two weeks of inpatient services covered, as long as we maintained our current level of progression. An appeal would likely end with us being held responsible for approximately $2,500, after spending 10-14 days without receiving any therapy of any kind, waiting for a decision. (secondary appeals rarely succeed in situations like this)
Where does that leave us? We have no choice but to take Dad home. At this time we are without the necessary resources for successful transitioning. We are in need of an incredible amount of support. There are big changes that need to be made to his home to create a safe and functional environment. We lack the proper equipment to care for him and are now in a high-risk situation that could lead to an injury or a loss of the progress he has fought so hard for, or worse...
Here is the good news! Ira (my dad, me Catherine, or Katie, as he calls me) is loved by so many people that I spent my teenage years trying to avoid bumping into someone who inevitably wanted time to speak with him, even when we were hundreds of miles away from home. Ha! I have absolutely no doubt that with a reasonably small donation from each of you, we will be able to very quickly get everything together to ensure that my father receives safe, dignified, compassionate care in his own home. Just like the type of care he insisted on providing to everyone he treated throughout his career.
My brother and I are asking you to please, take a moment to remember a time that our father was there for you or someone that you love. Consider the type of man we all know my father to be and please help me to care for him the way he deserves to be cared for. Allow me to help my Daddy to recover from this awful incident and to provide him with quality of life and the same standard of care he would insist you receive.
Thank you for taking the time to read my plea. Thank you for being a friend to my father throughout his life. Thank you for the donations I truly believe we will receive in time for us to make things more manageable, one day at a time. I do not doubt that our prayers are heard and that the example my father has always put forth in friendship and charity will be displayed and replicated during his time of need.
Feel free to call me, anytime, to make inquiries and to plan future visits. We would love to have you help us welcome Dad home & thank God for the opportunity to celebrate his successes with you!
