Diego's Fight Against Leukemia

Donation protected

Hello to all. First, I would like to thank those who have taken the time to read this. My name is Gladys Jimenez. On December 2, 2020, David (Dad) and I welcomed a beautiful baby boy named Diego Mateo Sonico. We were so excited that we had a boy. I can still remember the joyous feeling I had when I first saw Diego, not to mention the full head of hair the nurse styled. Diego was born 7.4 lbs. and 19 inches long. We look back and laugh about that first car ride home and how small he looked in that car seat.

As an infant, Diego was inquisitive and energetic, always wanting to know what people around him were doing. Into his toddler years, Diego was rambunctious with endless energy. He loves nature and animals. Going to the Oakland Zoo and playing in the park are some of his favorite activities. He loves everything King Kong and Godzilla-related. Diego is a smart boy. At age 2, he already knew his ABCs, thanks to his Kidango teachers, and his memory recall was exceptional.

Diego just celebrated his 4th birthday on December 2nd. Unfortunately, he spent his 4th birthday with an ear infection and a cold. That’s how this whole challenging situation came about. His fevers persisted, and he was rushed to Oakland Hospital with a low blood count. After several days of testing, the worst news was confirmed. Diego has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Devastating news for his dad and me. Never in a million years did we see this outcome. Life sometimes is not fair.

Diego has a long road ahead of him. There will be countless treatments, both inpatient and outpatient. Bills still need to be paid, and medical expenses will pile up. We are asking for donations to help alleviate some financial burdens. Any and every little bit counts. We also understand that some may not be able to donate now. So, continued prayers and support are more than enough.

Diego is a strong boy. He is our SUPERHERO! He will beat this and celebrate his remission milestones. Diego has a vast immediate family that has been there since day 1, and nothing in this world will change that. He has so much love to give and looks forward to seeing each of you soon.
