Young Mom & 5-Year-Old Daughter Displaced. Please Help Us Find a Safe Home

Hello, my name is Tatyana Leggette, and I’m a single mom to my sweet, smart, and full-of-life 5-year-old daughter, Kimistry.

We just moved into our apartment on July 1st, thinking it would be the start of a new chapter, a fresh beginning for the two of us after a long and difficult road. I had worked so hard to save what little I could to get us moved in. It wasn’t perfect, but we made it ours — Kimmy picked out her room, we set up our little kitchen table, and for the first time in a long time, I felt like we could finally breathe.

But just a little over two months later, we were hit with something I never saw coming.

On a regular Tuesday afternoon, I came home to find a bright orange “Condemned” notice taped to our building. The city had declared the entire building unfit for occupancy due to major unresolved maintenance and safety issues — issues I was never told about before moving in.

We were given almost no time to pack and nowhere to go.

We hadn’t even finished unpacking.

I was devastated, confused, and heartbroken not just for me, but for my daughter. She asked me that night, “Are we moving again, Mama?” I didn’t know what to say. I still don’t.

Right now, we’re staying wherever we can, night by night. I’m trying everything — calling shelters, looking for emergency housing, asking around for rentals — but with limited income, no savings left, and very few options, it feels like we’re drowning.

So I’m here, humbly asking for help.

I created this GoFundMe to raise funds to help us secure a safe, stable home, cover first and last month’s rent, and replace some of the basic necessities we lost when we had to leave in a rush. Even a small amount will help us take a step toward rebuilding the life we were just beginning.
