This past Tuesday was my biggest nightmare.

My mom was admitted into Emergency for lung failure. The lower portion of her left Lung is collapsed, they found a growth and she has fluid on her lungs.

Over the last few years my moms health has deteriorated drastically. Diagnosed with Heart disease, Lung disease and Type 2 diabetes, life has begun to be too much for my mum. Her shaking has increased to the point of holding a phone to take a picture is almost impossible.

My mom has always had the biggest heart in the room. Giving is one of her best qualities.

Covid forced my mom to semi-retire, but put my mother into a massive depression. With a grade 8 education my mother gave us the best life she could and often gave other kids from our neighbourhood just as much. She’s known to feed anyone any everyone. She finds it difficult to find her purpose without her Chef’s jacket on.

Helping to raise my 5 year old niece, even feeling the way she has, she pushed her self to go back to work. Thankfully it was not full time. She Sits on a stool pushing her self to cook for others not being able to breathe and walk but still finds a way to push hard every day.

Being in a constant state of pain this woman has the heart and will of a superhero.

Her new reality is to fully retire. As working in a kitchen won’t allow her to wear Oxygen.

She can no longer do the stairs. She can barely walk.

She’s never asked for anything and always gives the shirt off her back.

She needs our help!

She needs a lift put in so she can still have her bedroom upstairs. She needs a new scooter with a proper ramp, and the house has to be user friendly now that she will be on Oxygen most of the time. She needs assist handles in the bathrooms and hopefully a wheelchair accessible bathtub if possible.

We’ve never asked for help, but I ask now. I can’t do this alone. I’m doing my best to stay strong, I feel like I’m failing miserably. I’m not ready to loose her but I can do my best to make her as comfortable as possible. If anyone knows me I will do anything and everything in my power to help anyone I love.

I know this life. One day we will all be in my shoes. I’ve faced some battles but this, this is the hardest yet. I pray God gives me strength not just for me but for my family.
