Dianna's Battle with Stage 4 Cancer

Hello, my name is Dianna Lewis. I am 51 years old, living in Macon, Georgia. I moved here 2 years ago from California in hopes of enjoying the rest of our years together, going easy on ourselves.

Three months after settling in and starting work at a nail salon, I was rushed to Piedmont Hospital for emergency surgery and later informed that I have stage 4 colon cancer. I have to wear a colostomy bag and be on chemotherapy probably for the rest of my life. Our lives and dreams shattered.

Our son, 28 years old, served 8 years in the Army overseas, and our daughter, 22, is working and going to school in California. They didn’t deserve the devastating news, but they did. I googled stage 4 colon cancer and found an average 13-month life expectancy with chemotherapy. I have been on chemotherapy for 20 months now.

Last CT scan, Dr. Malhotra at the Piedmont Cancer Specialist told me that my cancer had spread to my liver. I kind of expected this worst to happen. I learned to accept my fate. I went from 150 pounds to now 110 pounds and from walking around work all day at the shop to barely being able to walk from the parking lot to the doctor's office. I know my days are numbered.

My husband stopped working a year ago to stay home and take care of me. Unfortunately, the state doesn’t pay spouse caregivers. We have very little left. We sold everything valuable. My husband spends extra on supplements to help me eat and sleep well, besides what Ambetter insurance covers.

We need some help for the remaining time I have. Your donation will help with my bills. If the doctor stops giving chemotherapy, I would like to go to California to visit my children and travel around the country to places I wish to visit but never had a chance to.
