I am setting up this page for my amazing mom, Diann Fischer. She will be going home after spending the last 3 months in the hospital recovering from a spinal cord injury (see full story below). She is looking forward to going home and getting back to as normal of a life as she possibly can and not letting being in a wheelchair stop her from living a full life. Unfortunately one challenge that is currently a roadblock in this is her ability to get in and out of her husband's Toyota Tundra. The height of the vehicle makes it hard to slide board transfer without having several people there to support and they do not have enough money to purchase a new car. In doing research we found an amazing device that will allow her to transfer to the truck called the Glide n' Go from Access Unlimited. This will not only make it easy for my mom to get in and out of the car but will also save Jon's back from injury. My mom would never ask for help which is why I am creating this for her because I know how much of a positive impact it will have on her life. She needs to raise $7,000 to be able to cover the price of the device. Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your continual love and support for my mom and our family.
Love,
Courtney

Diann Strong Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/groups/2074916959457864/about/ "On May 5, 2018 I thought it would be fun to take a ride on a tricycle. It was one of those metal ones that does spinning tricks with no brakes. I caught speed going down hill and flipped into a big rock pile. I regret it but I can't go back and change the past so am trying to be positive and make the best of my situation. I was taken to Sutter Roseville where they found that there was a fracture in my neck and they did surgery to fuse C4-C7. Due to the accident my spinal cord was also injured and I was only able to move my arms and had no feeling below my belly button. I stayed in the trauma nero IC at Sutter for a little over a week and then was laterally transferred to the ICU at Mercy San Juan because of insurance (gotta love it $$$). During my ICU stays they were focusing on pain management and breathing issues. On May 24, 2018 I was transferred to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Rehab in San Jose. During the first few weeks of my injury me and my family had heard this was the best place for spinal cord injuries so we fought to get me here. Upon arrival I was placed in the respiratory rehab because of the breathing troubles which come to find out were being mismanaged at the other hopsitals I was at. The trach that was originally put in was actually a pediatric size making it even harder to breath so they quickly replaced that with a larger and more comfortable one. They put me on a plan to ween me off of the ventilator and gave me additional breathing treatments to strengthen my lungs and clear the extra secretions I had. They started using this special device called a passy muir valve which allows me to talk, something I hadn't done in a long time and you know how much I love to talk. I spent 6 weeks in the respiratory rehab and while there were some ups and downs with my breathing I eventually got strong enough for them to move me to the acute rehab for more specific spinal cord rehabilitation. Since moving to acute rehab I was able to get off of the ventilator, get my trach removed, and get my neck brace taken off which was a huge win!! I have also gained sensation back in most of my body. I have full range of movement in my arms but do not have strength or full dexterity in my fingers. I also have started to be able to move my ankle up and down and rotate my legs in and out using my abductor muscles. With incomplete spinal cord injuries it can take months and years to recover so it is hard to tell which muscle strength I will gain back yet. This rehabilitation facility is amazing and the intense physical therapy, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy I am getting every day has made a huge difference. It is bitter sweet but I will be leaving on July 26th, while it is exciting to go home for the first time in 3 month I also want to be able to continue the rehabilitation process as long as possible here. Going home will be a new adventure and push me in different ways. Thank you so much for all your continual love and support. Knowing I have so many loved ones supporting me gives me the extra motivation to push through the hard times."

Courtney
