My mom, Diane, previously diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, went to the hospital on 2/04/2025 because she was sick and struggling to get enough oxygen. What seemed like a pretty standard hospital visit escalated pretty quickly into needing a lung transplant sooner rather than later. In the following weeks, she was accepted into the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, went through rigorous testing to get listed on the transplant list, and received a donor organ.

On March 3rd, Diane went through a successful 10-hour lung transplant surgery. Everything she has been able to accomplish in one month’s time is truly incredible, but the journey is just starting!

In the coming months (3-4), Diane will have multiple appointments daily at the Mayo Clinic. She will have to reside in Jacksonville so that she is close enough for all of her appointments and physical therapy. She will be on as many as 40 different medications at the time she leaves the hospital. The road to recovery is a long one but Diane’s strength and perseverance will give her the ability to walk it.
