On July 15th, 2025, my mother went outside to check her mailbox, which is on the opposite side of the street from her apartment. She remembers seeing a white vehicle three blocks away from her house when she was at her mailbox. By the time she turned around, the car was veering toward her. The driver had fallen asleep and admitted this to the paramedics when they showed up.

My mother was living independently by herself at 73 years old and did not require any assistance from anyone. She was a social butterfly, always on the go with her friends, attending church functions, or just hanging out with family.

She was in the trauma unit in an Indianapolis hospital for just over 2 weeks. She is now in a nursing home for therapy and has to go back and forth to Indianapolis for appointments!

Her injuries: she had a brain bleed, a broken shoulder, a broken arm that required a plate and screws, broken ribs, a broken left leg, and degloved skin all the way around her knee to just above her ankle. She has to have a wound vac on there, and it has to be changed three times a week. It is absolutely excruciatingly painful for her. They are very hopeful that they will be able to save her leg. Her nose was broken, including the cartilage behind it. She had to have three plates in the front of her face where her eye sockets are, one of those being formed into an eye socket. Her jaw was out of socket, but they were able to fix that. Not sure yet if it will need another surgery. She actually had all of her own teeth at the time, but now they're saying that she's going to have to go and have oral surgery done because the impact loosened most of them, and they're not sure if they will be able to be saved.

All of the money raised, besides whatever GoFundMe takes, will be put into an account for my mother when she is able to get out of the nursing home. We are not sure if she will be able to live on her own or if she will have to live with family, but it will all be used for her medical expenses!

Anything will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading my mother's story!
