Hello! My name is Diana Lee Guzman and I am currently an undergraduate student at New York University double majoring in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. I graduated from Carl Hayden Community High School located in Phoenix, Arizona where I was born and raised. I am currently the External Vice President for the NYU SHPE Chapter (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and Robotics Instructor for the Center for K-12 STEM Education.
Cartoon by Jiao Haiyang on Aging PopulationsThe reason I am in pursuit of raising funds is to be able to study abroad in Shanghai, China this January 2017. Normally, the January term is the part of the year in which students have recess betweent the Fall and Spring semseters, however, I decided to pursue opportunities to advance my education in Computer Science and to apply my passion to real world scenarios. This past Friday, I was accepted to attend NYU Shanghai in which I will work on a research and design sprint team to address the aging population crisis in China. The course will focus on leading university research and technologies from around the world in which we will be in partnership with AccessHealth. If I raise enough funds to participate in this initiative, I will have the opportunity to have global impact as each team will present their projects and ideas at the end of the course to a group of experts who will fund the proposals that are most likely to succeed.
Raising these funds is extremely important to me and my future solely because it is my greatest ambition to have global impact and use my resources to provide for those who face challenging circumstances. This course not only incorporates my studies but allows me to apply my passion to provide service for others through the use of technology.
The expenses that will need to be covered will include a $500 reservation fee to verify that I will be attending NYU Shanghai, $5,500 for tuition, $750 for Housing, $1200 for airflight, $300 for activity fees and the rest would cover the extra taxes and living fees while I am in China.
I have worked tirelessly and have shown deserved opportunity to work alongside innovation, I just now need to be able to afford it.
I am completely honored to have been accepted and extremely honored for any and all help that is given by each individual and as a whole community. I have made it thus far only by the support I have recieved. Thank you to those who donated and thank you to those who are not able to at the moment. Please feel free to forward this along.
Lots of love,
Diana Lee
