Diana Neverson Memorial Fund

Diana Neverson passed away March 30th. She was a professor at Mercy College and Hunter College. She loved teaching her students. At the end of her life one of her main concerns was her students and her great grand son Detrel. She was a very loving woman that out other before herself. Everyone knew that if you were in trouble you call Ms.Diane . Ms. Neverson or "Grandma". She would feed and care for the neighborhood kids by taking them on trips and buying them clothes and helping them get jobs.

She was the first Black Woman to run a Supreme Court Room in The Bronx. She retired from The New York State Court system for 33 1/2 years. She often helped young me and women change their life by helping them enlist in the military. When she retired she pursued her PH.D in Psychology. She used her knowledge and education in mental health and education to teach New York City Teachers "How to deal with students in their classrooms that are caretakers', "How to handle bullying', 'What to do when stopped by the Police' , 'Mediation and Managing Human Conflict, "Special Education and counseling services for children' and many more programs she created and taught.  She also tutored Cello and Bass at KIPP Academy.

Diana was a great believer in education and spent the later part of her life fighting for public schools in the Bronx for more educational programs for students at P.S 106 and P.S 127. She held positions on the PTA and SBL always willing to volunteer. Earlier this year she help arrange a trip to Black Comic Book Festival at Schomburg Center for research and Black Culture because she wanted the students to know what else was possible and to help some very talented art students meet Comic Book Artists that looked like them.

What people may not know about Diana Neverson is that she performed for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles during their American Tour. She was a trained opera singer and pianist. She loved her "Stevie Cat". Shirley Chisholm was one of her very good friends. She conducted the Bronx Supreme Court Choir and sang for Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins. That besides loving history she was a Math wiz. She could perform complex statistical analysis in her head and shoot out a correct answer. She was highly dedicated to her church and extended church family at Solomon Baptist Church and UUBL. She did fund raisers, cooked food and helped members when their family members passed away. She sang on church choirs and was President of her Usher Board. She also taught Sunday School at Loyal Baptist church.

But above all she loved and cared anyone.

In this time of grief for her family. They request assistance in trying to fore-fill her last wish which was to aid in the care and support of her "Boom Boom Boy" Detrel Hooks. She lived for  and supported her grand baby and was worried about his care after she was gone.

At this time because of the New York Lockdown and Corona Virus situation in NYC. The family is asking for support as we try to do the best to honor Diana Neverson. The family wants to prove that she isn't just a possible Corona virus statistic. Donations with go to handling the uncovered memorial expense and to the care and well fair of her grand baby Detrel Hooks as she requested.

If you find it in your heart to give. Please share this with others so we may honor her who was taken much too soon.
