Diana Mays-Nielson “Her Show Must Go On”

Mom, wife, friend, social butterfly, theatre teacher, director, stage painter, prop builder, and wearer of a hundred other hats, at home and at Farmington High School! 

Diana received news of 3 brain tumors in early March, by the end of the month she had had brain surgery, as well as a diagnosis of metastasized carcinoma with a lung primary. Along with the 3 large brain tumors, there are 6 more in her brain, one large tumor on her spine, the large tumor in her left lung, a tumor on her ribs, and cancerous cells throughout her lymph nodes. 

As daunting as this sounds, as a never smoker, young female, the doctors are optimistic that although this is currently a terminal diagnosis, there is no definitive way to determine her overall prognosis. There are new treatments for this type of EGFR mutation caused cancer, they are promising in both their less severe side effects, as well as their ability to target these specific kinds of cancer cells and extend life! These can be used as a standalone treatment or alongside radiation and chemotherapy, to treat Non Small Cell lung cancer. 

It will be a fight, but with so many in her corner, there will be no throwing in of the towel! She will probably ask why I couldn’t come up with a theatre analogy, but in this case the boxing one seems to fit the best!
