Diana Johnson Gonzalez’s Battle with GBS

I never thought that I would be creating an account on this page but I want to do this to help my dear friend. Diana Marie Johnson, one of my closest friends, is currently in the hospital in the Critical Care Unit.

Diana started to feel a tingling in her fingers and toes, she felt a bit ill but with the kids starting school she put her motherly duties before her own needs. After just a few days the tingling went to complete numbness and traveled all the way up her body to her mouth where she could no longer taste anything. Diana went to the emergency room where they did a scan of her brain and advised her they think she may have Multiple Sclerosis. They advised her to see a neurologist and gave her a referral for a week after discharge. Diana was scared, but didn’t want to worry anyone (still putting others first) she kept it to herself and her husband. Within a couple days, Diana could no longer walk and decided she couldn’t wait any longer, since her husband was at work she called her mother-in-law and told her what was going on, asking if she could bring her to the hospital. While getting ready for the hospital Diana fell breaking her ankle and had to be taken by an ambulance. When she arrived at the hospital the doctor who attended her advised, she does not have MS and that he was confident that she in-fact had something called Guillain- Barre syndrome.

Guillain-Barre is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its peripheral nervous system causing paralysis and leaving the person unable to breathe independently. The paralysis can range from just months to years. Last night Diana was no longer able to breathe on her own and had to be put into an induced coma. Her heart was struggling with all of the pain she was in so the doctors felt it is best if she stays sedated for the next several days while she rests.

We are not sure when she is going to be able to work and she has her two beautiful girls to care for.  She will also need to live in rehab facility where she will work hard to regain mobility.  I’ve read stories of people overcoming this and she is a strong willed person.  This happened unexpectedly and her devoted husband, Alex, is the only one working at the moment. Anything you are able to donate will help. For those of you that know Diana, you know she is a real friend. Her funny, vivacious personality has brought a smile to so many of us. We are blessed to have each other as childhood friends and now raise our girls together. Her absence has brought sadness but like the nurse said this is temporary and with prayers she will overcome this. Seeing her like this breaks my heart and I feel so helpless not being able to help her. Any amount we raise will help bring some relief to her and her husband. We are praying for her and we know she will come back stronger than before with God’s guidance. Thank you for your support ❤️.
