My Aunt was diagnosed of bilateral grade 5 renal parenchymal (chronic kidney) disease in 2017. She’s been battling kidney disease since 2010 and it has progressed from stage 1 to its current stage of 5.
Her doctors advised that she attends dialysis sessions 3 times a week. Each session of dialysis cost N27,000, and she is meant to take Epogen injection to help boost her red blood cells. The cost of the injection is N11,000, per session. A N2,000 post-dialysis test is needed to check if the electrolytes are within normal range after each session of dialysis. A total of N40,000 is needed to cover each session . Three times a week makes it N120,000/week and N480,000/month.
The best and preferred option to keep her alive aside dialysis is a kidney transplant. Doctors have estimated the cost of kidney transplants yo be between 8 – 12 million Naira. Our family and friends have helped to the best of their abilities to fund my aunts medical cost. My uncle and his children have exhausted their savings, family and friends have also tried their best. At this trying time, we request the assistance of well wishers.
