Diaconate Roadtrip to ESC sites

Rachael Essing and Chris Potter are Episcopal Service Corps (ESC) alumni and postulants for ordination to the diaconate. This August, they are taking an 18-day road trip to visit six ESC sites across the US to teach ESC volunteers about diaconal ministry.

Rachael and Chris are undertaking this trip to form a pathway from the Episcopal Service Corps into Church leadership. The ESC was critical in both of their formation, as it gave them the opportunity to serve their community and live in an intentional Christian community.

Rachael and Chris will give a 90 minute self-reflective training to introduce ESC fellows to diaconal ministry and help them consider their personal calling, including in relation to the Church. They will be visiting sites in Davis, Tuscon, St. Louis, Harrisburg, Chapel Hill, and New York from Aug. 12-30.

Your contribution will help cover the anticipated $1,500 cost of gas and tolls for 8,200 miles, food, and campsites and motels when unable to stay with friends and ESC sites. Giving to this trip means a number of things: aiding and celebrating young adults in the Church, strengthening community and leadership, and enabling young adults to not have to choose between living out their calling and paying for school (LOL).

Please also offer prayer for the trip. Prayers for safe travels, thanksgiving for the service of the ESC fellows, blessings for those involved in ESC, and lifting up diaconal ministry are also needed. Amen.
