Hey! I'm Olivia and I am making this for my coworker and friend, Shay. I found her puppy on the side of the road at 8 weeks old and Shay has given him so much love and I know he loves her back. She has had a long road recently with her baby and I am helping her create this so she can get some help or support with her baby.
This is Shay's and Diablo's story now:
Shay gave her sweet lab mix 1 year old baby the name of Diablo.
Despite his name he is the sweetest dog in the world. His momma thought it would be funny to make his name opposite of what he is. He was found in the road at 8 weeks old and has been the most perfect baby ever. He is a cuddler and loves to play with his doggy brother and his extended cat/dog family. He is the happiest boy ever and loves to give kisses.
On 7/14 Diablo was admitted to the ER for eating rocks. After radiographs and bloodwork, the ER team proceeded with a foreign body surgery. While completing the foreign body surgery, I elected for Diablo to have a Gastropexy (where they suture a part of the stomach to the body wall so it is less likely to flip later on) and Neuter. The surgery went great but the rocks were already in the colon so they could not retrieve it from the intestines. Diablo passed the rocks naturally a couple days later and everything was going good.
On 8/8 I took Diablo back to the vet to have vaccines done. While during the visit, I let the DR know that we were not eating like we normally do. After consulting with the vet, they recommended that I see the Internal Medicine Specialist. I consented and an appointment was set up.
8/12. I took Diablo back to the vet so he could see the Internal Medicine Specialist. After doing an ultrasound and bloodwork, the IM DR recommended supportive care and an appetite stimulant. Also recommended a recheck ultrasound and aspiration of cystic lesions if we did not get better.
8/16 Diablo had not eaten much in 3 days. ER did another x-ray and they saw a rock. Ultrasound was done and they declared that the rock was not obstructive. So I elected to hospitalize overnight with IV fluids and repeat x-rays to see if it was moving.
8/17AM - X-rays were done and the rock didn't move. They recommended that we do more bloodwork and then do an endoscope since it seemed like the rock was still in the stomach. Unfortunately the bloodwork was not in a good spot so they held off on the endoscope for that day and continued on IV fluids to keep Diablo comfortable
8/18 Internal Medicine did the endoscope with Diablo. Again this rock was in the colon so they could not get it, but they did see something else that was the cause of it all. After talking to the IM DR, she let me know that the Gastropexy was most likely bunched up causing the entrance from the stomach to the pylorus to be bunched. Which was causing mobility issues within the stomach, which included Diablo being nauseous and not wanting to eat. She said the only was to fix this would be a revision surgery which is basically they will undo the Gastropexy. Allowing Diablo's stomach to hopefully get his back on the path to being normal.
So here is me asking for help. I am already $6000 deep in the hole with just what has been done so far. Diablo still needs surgery to fix everything which will just add on to my bill. I am just asking to any kind of help. This dog is my life. He has been amazing and perfect up until now. I would do anything for him. Everything will go to his bill because I know it will only keep growing until his surgery takes place. Also the Surgery is scheduled with a board certified surgeon on August 31! So he will need all the love and support then. So if anyone can donate and help, myself and Diablo will greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!
Shay and Diablo
