Hi, my name is Chelcie. I’m a neighbor and family friend of the Demeny family. A few years ago I was handing out flyers for an upcoming neighborhood event when I met Tyler. Tyler told me about his kids, Grace, Micah, Rorie and Finn and his wife Megan. We shared having a soon to be kindergarten, and Megan and I always seem to be following the same hair trend. The family left me wanting to know them better.
Over time we got to know each other as the kids played. Megan had been hit hard with long covid, her kids Micah and Grace had fought hard battles many adults would cry about, but still Megan shared her faith in God with me, and her humor in motherhood.
Last summer Ben’s 6 year old friend Rorie got a diagnosis with Diabetes type 1. This diabetic was wreaking havoc on this busy little girl. She’d be having numbers 400+ and not knowing, she’d be down low into the 40’s and not knowing. As time has gone on Rorie has faced some seriously scary thoughts about how diabetes is affecting her. She’s still so full of spunk, but it would be unfair to not acknowledge its affect her. She can’t change her diet, she can’t just eat less candy, this is her body attacking it’s self. She’s lucky to have great parents who are tying to help her. Megan watched the numbers on her meter like a hawk, and they research how to help her best. Diabetes has stolen from Rorie the freedom to run the neighborhood without worrying about lows, and binged on kid food without worrying about the highs. For Megan and Tyler it’s affected every aspect of their lives.
This is where we come in Megan has found an agency that they could purchase a service dog for Rorie, Bowen Elite Service Dogs. The dog is a tool it’s trained to detect her blood sugar levels and would alert her parents if she’s too high or too low. As one can imagine this tool is not cheap low end we’re looking at 32,000 dollars. It’s 6,000 down and 2,000 a month until it’s paid off. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could help!? Let’s get them the down payment taken care of!
Megan has a fear of asking for help on this, but this little human and this family deserve our help. They wrap everyone up in love, and now it’s our turn to do for them.
the family has also come up with selling shirts to support their idea, but Megan shared how much they’d actually see back. I’d like to see a larger amount going to them.
