Hi, my name is Robert Smith. I’m 75 years old and I have had diabetes most of my life, although I did not know it until I was 49 years old. This is a terrible disease and for the most part can be prevented with proper exercise and diet. Going untreated this disease does terrible damage, mostly irreversible to your body. I have multiple illnesses but the reason I’m asking for help today is to help manage my retinal illness. I need eye injections once a month in each eye which reduces the amount of swelling of my retina. The injections have a high cost. After Medicare the deductible $500.00per injection, leaving a balance of $1,000.00 a month. This amount use to be paired by a nonprofit which received congressionally approved funds which was designated by congress to help people cop with the costs oh high copay medical treatments. So now there is no help for people like me on a fixes income, coming only from Social Security. Needless to say I have had to stop the injections because I cannot pay the copay. I currently owe my doctor $1,500.00 and cannot get further injections until the balance is paid and I have copay in hand for future treatments. My vision has deteriorated especially in my right eye and I have only missed one injection. I am out of options and I desperately need help.
