Hi, my name is Addison. On August 25, 2020, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This has changed my life dramatically. I used to be afraid of needles, but now I have to get seven insulin shots a day to stay alive.

I love playing sports and being active. I play softball for the Spirit of Morgan Hill, volleyball for the U.S.Y.V.L, and I was a Morgan Hill Raider cheerleader. I also love to swim! I am a brownie in Girl Scouts, and I attend Paradise Valley Engineering Academy.

One of the most challenging times is at night because I am constantly dropping too low or going too high. I have a Dexcom sensor on my arm, but the alerts at night don't wake me up. My mom and dad check me throughout the night to ensure I don't go too low or too high. If I go too low, my body will have seizures, and I might slip into a coma or die.

My parents and I researched other diabetic kids with similar problems regulating their glucose. We found out that dogs can be trained to detect highs and lows in people with diabetes. My parents contacted several nonprofit organizations, and each one said I would need to fundraise to purchase a service dog because they are very expensive. My parents contacted Kaiser, but they will not cover the cost of a diabetic service dog.

If you could help me raise the money for a service dog, I would appreciate it. My parents would love it too because it would put their minds at ease at night.
