Hello! I am Anthony J Dominick, and I am a Type 1 Diabetic who is looking to start a business to aid my fellow Type 1 Diabetics. Diabetes Monster is dedicated to emotionally, informationally, and financially supporting Type 1 Diabetics.

We emotionally support Type 1s through our plushie, The Diabetes Monster, which is designed to be a fun, huggable, soothing companion for Type 1 Diabetics to join them on their diabetes journey.
Along with the plushie comes a small book with facts and tips to help Type 1s and their friends and family understand the condition and procedures needed to live a healthy life.
Part of the sales of this plushie and book, along with donations, will be put into a Financial Assistance Program, which, through a clear and secure process, will aid type 1 Diabetics with the heavy financial burden of managing their diabetes.

The story of this company started at the same time I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

On January 24th, 2016, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I remember the day with a strange fondness because that is the day my life changed in a way that would dictate the rest of my life.

During the days of my diagnosis in the hospital, my oldest sister came in with a bunch of pictures that she and my other siblings had drawn for me. One of them was a picture of me in my hospital bed and a big, blue, fluffy-looking guy with stick arms and legs and a big smile.

“Hi, I’m your Diabetes Monster!” said the funny-looking monster.

It was a simple drawing, but for a 10-year-old boy in the hospital who had not fully grasped what was going on at that moment, it was the most comforting thing that I received.

It helped me begin to form my approach to managing my diabetes. To my 10-year-old brain, it made sense to consider my new condition simply as a companion on this journey we call life, rather than a scourge that would haunt me.

The idea of the Diabetes Monster has stuck with me ever since.

That simple picture my sister gave me all those years ago, and my life experiences have brought me to realize that I should share my Diabetes Monster companion with my fellow diabetics. This little guy has supported me and helped me do amazing things I never thought I could do. I hope he or she helps you as much as mine helped me.
