Nearly 5 years ago, I received the devastating news that my daughter Hayden, who was only 11 at the time, had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Seeing the challenges she faces every single day inspired me to take on this gruelling challenge.
Over the next 31 days, I along with my mate Paul Tinkler (he suggested the challenge) will attempt to complete 500km. The challenge begins with two 3km runs, followed by two 4km runs, with 1km added each day after that — meaning day 5 is 5km, day 6 is 6km, all the way up to day 31; 31km.
The goal is simple: to push ourselves to the point of hating running, even if only for a week — because nobody enjoys living with diabetes.
We’ll need all the support we can get to make it to the finish line, and we’d love to encourage everyone to join us by completing a few kilometres of their own. No matter how short the distance, every step counts.
If running isn’t for you, please consider supporting the challenge by donating to the GoFundMe page. Every penny raised will go directly to Diabetes Gibraltar.
Together, we can make a difference and help create hope for a better future without diabetes.
