Dear friends and kind hearts,
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart, as life has thrown another curveball my way. For over 25 years, I’ve been managing type 1 diabetes with determination, and for the past four years, I’ve faced the challenges of end-stage renal failure, relying on dialysis to keep going. But recently, a devastating car accident totaled my father’s car—the one lifeline that got me to my dialysis appointments three times a week.
This car wasn’t just a vehicle; it was a symbol of security. My dad recently added me to the title, knowing how critical it was for my independence and survival. I’ve been the only one using it for the past two years, and losing it feels like losing a piece of stability in an already tough journey. Without it, I’m struggling to get to dialysis. My health insurance doesn’t cover transportation, and Lyft rides, at $35 a trip, are draining what little savings I had.
The tow company is charging $800 to release the car, but they’ll reduce it to $400 if I sign over the title for salvage. I’ve shopped around, but this is the best offer I could find. Right now, my short-term hope is to buy an electric bicycle—around $900 for a reliable one—to get me to and from dialysis safely. It’s not ideal, but it’s a step toward reclaiming some independence.
I’ve always tried to push forward, but right now, I feel overwhelmed, like I’m spiraling. I’m reaching out because I need your help to get through this hurdle. Any support—whether it’s a contribution, a kind word, or sharing my story—would mean the world to me and my dad as we navigate this loss. Together, I believe we can turn this around.
With gratitude and hope,
Kyle Sussin
