Diabetes Alert Dog Cost
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Zoe. I am 28 and a type 1 diabetic of 26 years. I was diagnosed at 19 months old.I've been thinking about this for a long time. I have done a lot of research and while I wish I could accomplish this goal myself, I need your help. Last year I started off with an a1c of 12. Recently I have gotten it down to 6.4 but in the process have become very hypo unaware. I can get down to 40 with no signs. When the lows become noticeable to me it becomes harder to treat and often it affects my mood, and energy levels as well as other basic functions like my eyesight. Dexcom has helped but is not 100 percent and doesn't help if you are asleep, unable to wake and can't hear it. So I would like your help with trying to obtain a diabetic alert dog.
Let me try to explain why... I've been diabetic for 25 years. I've been in a diabetic coma and have experienced diabetic seizures. Poor control has left me with neuropathy in my right leg, I now face diabetic retinopathy and the early signs of kidney issues. My most recent driving factor to try this was a miscarriage I had experienced earlier this year. As well as my husband finding a job he loves, that will sometimes require him to travel. At this current time, it is very hard for me to be alone. I am able to go to work as a veterinary technician and live a maybe normal life during the day but aside from my job, other things have become more difficult. One day I would like to safely be able to start a family and live my life less dependently. If you would like to know more I'm more than happy to talk about it. I hope you'd like to help me and if not I hope you share.
With love,
Zoe
Also, I am looking to obtain a service dog through Diabetic Alert Dogs of America, if you found yourself curious and wanted to look into them, or perhaps you too know someone who could benefit. I do have a particular dog I would like to obtain, but at this current time it is not set in stone, but if you would like to see him please shoot me a message (:
Update:3/12/23
I have lowered my campaign amount. The full cost of a service dog is 18000. However, if I can get to 10k which is the request of the company before delivery of the animal I'd be forever grateful and i would make monthly payments until the 18k was reached. While in the process of fundraising I will be saving money myself and I will be thinking of some fundraiser ideas, so stay tuned. Something may pop up
