DI team go to Globals

wanted to share some exciting news about our Destination Imagination (DI) program here in District 196. If you are unfamiliar with Destination Imagination (DI) it is a project-based, kid-driven program that fosters innovation and problem-solving skills among students. Through a combination of STEAM concepts, teams of students collaborate, think creatively, and develop unique solutions to various challenges in preparation for a fun and engaging competition.

I am thrilled to tell you that Red Pine Elementary had a group of 5th-grade girls called “Girls on the Go” who competed in Destination Imagination this spring and took first place in the “Uncharted” Challenge. In this challenge, they had to (1) identify a need within the community, (2) devise a service project, (3) craft a fantasy script to showcase the impact and importance of their project, and (4) create a captivating fantasy map incorporating elements of science. The fantasy skit they presented involved a map utilizing two scientific methods: circuits and magnets. The team's innovative paper circuit showcased the characters' time constraints, while their application of magnetism guided the characters through the map seamlessly.
The team's service project piece involved creating “birthday boxes” for children who couldn’t afford the ingredients needed to celebrate a birthday including items to make a cake and some small gifts. They felt that every child deserved to feel special on their birthday. With the incredible support of the Red Pine Elementary community, they crafted 149 “birthday boxes” to donate to Community 360 in Rosemount/Lakeville/Farmington.

Their hard work and dedication truly paid off as they not only clinched first place but also earned an invitation to the Globals DI competition in Kansas City. As we prepare for Globals, we are contacting companies for potential donations and/or sponsorships to support our team's participation. The cost of the registration for our 5th-grade team is $5,500 which may limit our ability to participate hence our fundraising efforts. If you are interested in helping out please reach out by phone or email, we also have tax forms available for charitable donation documentation at your request.

Thank you for your time and consideration of support for our team. We are excited to encourage these young girls to think outside the box and explore their creativity through DI. Your dedication to our students' growth and development is truly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Christine Prostrollo (Parent/coach) & Girls on the Go! (Addison, Lauren, Claire, Annalise, Raellen, Colette, Hannah)
