Lifesaving Cancer Treatment for Shannon

Donation protected
Shannon is only 16 years old and is fighting cancer for the 2nd time. Her case has been discussed at a national level in the NHS and as well as the 9 rounds of chemotherapy they have recommended a treatment called AMORE. This treatment is only available in the Netherlands. The NHS can’t pay for the treatment so this page has been set up to help with the costs of treatment, accomodation and travel. This treatment will give Shannon the best chance of beating cancer for good.

What is AMORE?

AMORE involves treatment over a 3 week period.

The first surgery will remove Shannon’s eye and the tumour. Rods will be inserted into her eye socket for the 2nd stage.
The 2nd part of the treatment is brachytherapy. This is a form of radiotherapy that is designed to limit the damage to surrounding tissue and so less brain damage is likely to occur. She is likely to have brachytherapy every 2 hours for between 2-4 days. This is to try and kill any remaining cancer cells after the surgery.
The second surgery will remove the rods and will include extensive facial reconstructive surgery.

Any funds raised which end up not being needed for Shannon’s treatment will be donated to help other children fighting cancer.
