Remembering Stephanie

She lit up a whole room.
Her smile was always so big.
She loved life.
She was kind.
She made everyone laugh.
She tried to look at the positive in the face of adversity.

Ways everyone describes my niece. My beautiful Stephanie lost the battle with her pain and illnesses earlier this week. Since pretty much birth, she has been dealing with diabetes, epilepsy, liver/pancreas transplants, rejections, kidney failure, dialysis, frequent hospital stays, chronic pain, emotional distress, surgeries, biopsies, etc. etc. Things a child/young adult shouldn’t have to even think about. But up until her last breath, she tried to remain positive and rallied on because WE wanted that. WE wanted her here. And through all the pain and suffering, she selflessly did what she had to do in order to please us. She went to her appointments. She watched her diet. She took her endless amounts of daily meds and suffered the side effects. Because WE wanted Stephanie here with us. She made our lives complete. She made us laugh. She made us love. And in the end, her heart just couldn’t endure anymore. So our sweet angel spread her wings and flew to where she would never again have to feel one more needle, take one more pill, be in pain one more time. Our hearts are crushed, but our girl is perfect again.

My sister and brother-in-law, Cris & Tony, were THE BEST parents this girl could have asked for. They were by her side through it all - the sleepless nights, the days off work, the hospital stays, the daily care. They should not be having to say a final goodbye to their daughter so soon - she was only 31. My heart breaks for them every second. And on top of the emotional anguish, they are now burdened with the costs of her funeral. Stephanie did not have a life insurance policy, as I’m sure we all hoped she was going to make it through to her next transplant and she’d be good as new. But sadly, that didn’t happen and now her parents are making the most heartbreaking and costly arrangements anyone should ever have to make. Being that this is going to be out-of-pocket, I’d like to set this “fundraiser” up in my niece’s honor and to help make this time a bit easier for Cris & Tony. Any little bit would help and be greatly appreciated. And if you can’t help financially, prayers for strength and healing would be wonderful, too. Thank you all so much
