DHL Reading Welsh Three Peaks
Donation protected
The 16 of us are climbing the three peaks in Wales; Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan in 24 hours. We all work together at DHL Express in Reading and are excited to take on this challenge together for two brilliant causes.
Evelina Children's Hospital in London - "The Young"
As a group we decided that we wanted to do something personal; either a local charity or something that affected us all as a group. We have a colleague Stuart who's little boy Leo was diagnosed with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome while still developing in the womb. This is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart and therefore, as the baby develops during pregnancy the left side of the heart does not form correctly. Although he is nearly 3 years old he has had two major heart operations; one at 5 days old and one at 3 months old with another on the way. At the time of the first operation the hospital made sure to give Stuart and Emily the space to sleep and be there for Leo as early and as late as they could. The support and care given by the nurses and receptionist were fantastic; they went above and beyond and not only made Leo feel better but Emily and Stuart as well. Leo is a brilliantly beautiful little boy with the most infectious smile that would brighten up anyone's day. We all agreed that as a group we want to raise money that helped bring this funny, energetic, intuitive, awesome young person into this world and will continue to support him as he grows older.
Age UK - "The Old"
We believe that no one should have no one and Age UK provides companionship and support for local older people during the whole year. In contrast to our first charity we wanted to raise money to make sure that all older people have the life that they've waited for their whole lives. We will all grow old one day and to know that there is a charity to make sure that no one is lonely is a reassuring thing.
