As a Mother you always want the best for your child, especially when it comes to a good education. More than one doctor told me I would never have children and in fact, I didn't become pregnant until after 10 years of marriage at the age of 42 (with twins). Unfortunately one twin died.but I still had my baby, Dhakiya (DHA-Kee-YAH which means intelligent).
It is hard to tell people all of what we have been through as a family that has brought us to the point where we are now...asking for money to help Dhakiya stay in college so she can realize what she has dreamed of being since she was 9 years old...being a Veterinarian and a Zoologist (lions, tigers and bears, oh my).
We've been homeless. I had 3 strokes and am now disabled and lost my full-time job as a Teacher and am living on a fixed income. But for the grace of God we would be homeless again.
Dhakiya's hard work at the Boston Collegiate Charter School, Captain of the Varsity Track Team, Captain of Varsity Volleyball, and Varsity Basketball Team, as well as, a Youth Leader at the Hyde Park YMCA, GEMS Youth at Jubilee Christian Church, and Outreach Worker with The Mothers for Justice and Equality have provided her with the opportunity for getting good grades and giving back to the community...She has received some scholarships but it is not enough. Dhakiya even worked over the Summer at Scamper Camp at the YMCA with the small children to get money for college.
Dhakiya is an amazing young lady, who is hard working, respectful, a good student, compassionate and kind with a love and passion to heal animals.
Right now we need $5,000 for Dhakiya to go back to the University of Maine-Orono for the Spring Semester of her Freshman year 2017.
All monies received will go towards tuition and books.
Any support you can give , no matter what amount, will help. We are so appreciative and thankful for any donation towards her goal as a future Animal Doctor.
