On Friday, November 7th, our lives changed in an instant. My mom suffered a sudden stroke that left the entire left side of her body nonfunctional. She currently needs maximum assistance for basic movements, daily care, and even simple transfers from bed to chair. We are now navigating emergency medical care, rehabilitation needs, and enormous uncertainty.

My mom has always been a fighter. She worked tirelessly doing Shipt grocery delivery - driving, shopping, and hustling long hours to keep up with life’s bills. She never complained, and she always did whatever it took to provide for our family. For over 15 years since her divorce, she was a struggling single mom taking care of all 4 of her children, including me. As an immigrant from Poland, life has been hard for her... and it just got even harder.

But because of the stroke, she cannot work at all now.

She cannot walk normally, cannot lift her left arm, and cannot safely stand or move without help. Her entire financial stability has disappeared overnight, and she has a looming amount of bills coming up, medical debt, and uncertainty about how much of her old self she will even be able to recover.

Our family is doing everything we can, but we are now facing:

Immediate and heavy financial strain:

Rent

Utilities

Phone and basic household bills

Medical expenses

Neurology & PCP follow-up appointments

Rehabilitation therapy

Mobility equipment

Transportation to and from medical visits

Loss of income (Shipt gig work was her only income source)

We are applying for every financial assistance program available, but many decisions take weeks or months, and nothing is guaranteed. In the meantime, we are carrying all expenses ourselves while also caring for her full-time.

Why we’re asking for help:

My mom is the most giving, selfless, hardworking person - she has survived struggles most people never see. She has always been the one quietly helping others, even when she had very little herself.

But right now, she truly needs support.

Her recovery will take time, and she needs stability, safety, and ongoing care. These funds will help cover:

-Rent + utilities so she doesn’t lose her home

-Medical bills not covered by assistance programs

-Neurology visits, scans, and lab work

-Physical and occupational therapy

-Medication

-Mobility support (walker, wheelchair, safety equipment)

-Basic living expenses while she cannot work

-Transportation costs to and from medical appointments

Anything you give - big or small - will directly help my mom (and younger siblings) stay afloat during the hardest moment of her life. We are doing everything we can, but we really cannot do this alone...
