Brutus’s Big Plans

Brutus has big plans, but needs our help. Meet Brutus. After 6 years of being crammed in a cage, along with severe abuse and neglect, Brutus was adopted and given a second chance at life with my brother, sister-in-law & 2 nephews. Brutus was rescued during a drug raid from a house in Philadelphia along with 11 other dogs. Brutus was extremely malnourished, underweight & needed medical care. Brutus was given the veterinary care he desperately needed to get him on his way to recovery. He was healing from the trauma he underwent all of his life in his loving new home. It put such a smile on my face when my little nephews ages 7 and 11 years old took part helpIng care for this traumatized dog while he adjust to life outside of a cage. Everyone who has met Brutus loves him. The plan was for my nephews and their friends to bring Brutus to nursing homes, so those who live there can see him from out their windows.

In the evening of January 2nd, Brutus was upstairs with my brother when the unexpected happened. Brutus had gone up and down the stairs a 1,000 times without a problem.  As he was going down the stairs, Brutus tumbled down to the bottom leaving him unable to move and unresponsive. My brother said it happened so fast. He was unable to get to him in time. He rushed Brutus to Garden State Veterinary Hospital where he remains in critical care. He has a severe back injury leaving him unable to move along with a traumatic brain injury. The bills are currently $3,500 for the first day which included his tests, medications, oxygen and  other care needed.  Since the accident, Brutus is showing some improvement with his traumatic brain injury.  Today (1/4/2021), the neurologist explained Brutus must have surgery that will cost between $6,382 - $6,882 for him to survive from the injuries. Exploring other options other than surgery, my brother’s family was told they could “put Brutus to sleep”. The kids and family are devastated. My nephews keep talking about how Brutus needs to get better, so he can go visit the people at the nursing home. The surgery is life saving, but unaffordable. Brutus is such a sweet boy. If you can find it in your heart to donate to help save Brutus’s life, so he can carry out his big plans it would be greatly appreciated. He has been through so much.
