My name is Evelyn Walls and my husband Jeremy Walls was assaulted while at work at The Federal Transfer Center by an inmate. He has had four surgeries from 2015 to 2019, one of those being a full left hip replacement. He returned to work after each surgery and is now having issues with the replacement. To go along with the pain he is in for the issues with the hip replacement, he has now torn the labrum and is bone on bone in his right hip. He went out to have his left hip fixed and add his right hip to his original injury in October of 2022. The Department of Labor and his doctors are arguing over his original injury and the new one. His case manager denied his claim then, he did a written review and the doctor's written review said his case was wrong as well. Now we are in the process of going through all of that again. He had to return to work in May of 2023 because he wasn't getting paid by the Department of Labor. He worked with the pain in both hips until his doctor put him on permanent restrictions which keep him from being around inmates and now, he is unable to go to work. The people at work have seen how much pain he is in just walking and it's only getting worse. He has isolated himself from his friends and family and has become depressed waiting for something to happen. He is in the process of medically retiring from the Bureau of Prisons. He needs surgery for his right hip so hopefully, if it is not too late, he doesn't need a right hip replacement. We are asking for donations so we do not have to worry about bills and food while he is recovering from surgery. The medical retirement process takes anywhere from 3 to 6 months to be approved and another 3 to 6 months before he receives his first retirement check. This whole time we have been living solely on my paycheck as an adjunct teacher. He is in constant pain and doesn't have any other option other than getting everything fixed so he can start a new career. Please keep him and our family in your prayers while he goes through this difficult time.
