Kara’s journey

Hello,
My name is Molly (Kemp) Schwader and I am posting this Go Fund Me for my oldest sister Kara (Kemp) Beattie. She is in overwhelming debt due to her sad and prolonged medical condition.

I have seen her go through radiation treatment, chemotherapy, special strict diet, a series of experimental medication treatments and ongoing weekly blood transfusions all to fight for her life. But despite years of this nothing has been successful. Kara has given her best and refused to give up the fight despite the many setbacks she has experienced. She does not complain no matter how miserable she is feeling. She has maintained hope, strength and courage and refuses to let her illness define her. In addition, she has been blessed with a giving and loving spirit.
Here is her Journey

Kara is a Mother of four now adult children and a proud and joyful grandmother of three grandsons. One of her adult sons is disabled and lives with her and her husband, Keven.

Kara's career was an Army Nurse for 14 years. She was deployed to Iraq in 2004 & 2005. Following her return, she was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma and was treated with radiation. She had a reoccurrence of cancer and was again treated with radiation. She then acquired an auto immune disorder--aplastic anemia along with epilepsy. Although not formally documented the VA suspects her condition was caused by exposure to depleted uranium while she was in Iraq.
Kara's immune system is quite compromised due to the fact that her bone marrow does not produce the red and white blood cells to fight infections. She also had uncontrolled seizures during a routine outpatient procedure that caused her to have stroke-like symptoms in 2017.Kara was hospitalized and was in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation to gain the use of her left side . She fought hard to learn to walk and regain strength and coordination of her left arm . For the past seven years Kara has been living with a disease that is painful and limits her independence.

Kara is now going through her last treatment option which is a stem cell transplant. In early August 2020 she was blessed with the news that a donor from Ireland was a perfect match. This is an extremely difficult and long treatment procedure to go through and she and her family pray this will be successful. This transplant is scheduled November 16,2020 .
Kara has lost so much that was important to her due to this disease. This includes being medically discharged from the Army, her nursing career, her desire to serve her country, her independence and now facing the hardship of extreme financial debt due to the treatments that were experimental and not covered by insurance.

To help her and her family with these heavy medical debts I have created a Go Fund Me. If you could offer your support by making a donation and then sharing it with your network, it would be so very much appreciated. Thank You!!
