SHH ... IT's A SURPRISE!

Hello Everyone!

If you're reading this then you must be someone who has more than one story to share about the incredible impact the Vincelette family has had on your life. For me- it all started as an 8th grader in Guy's classroom at York Middle School. I immediately realized that "Herr V" wasn't just any ordinary teacher, but one that truly cared about kids, and people, above anything else. Guy was a mentor to me from the very beginning and soon a friendship grew with his wife Rebecca and their two adorable kids, Teigan and Quinn, who joined the Vincelette bunch shortly after. It didn't take me long to realize that this family wasn't any ordinary family. They looked at life and the relationships that life brings with it in a way I have never quite seen before. I feel so blessed to have started a friendship that has lasted all of these years. I am so lucky to have them all in my life and can't begin to describe how grateful I am for each of them.

Most of you know that the Vincelette's life was turned upside down about 6 years ago when Rebecca was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through it all, she remained so strong and so brave and fought as hard as she possibly could. The cancer was aggressive and the treatment took a huge toll on her body, her life, and her family's life.  Rebecca underwent an enormous amount of treatment to try and "cure" the heavy stage 3 cancer. The doctor's did all that they could and thought they had gotten all of it, but this still left Rebecca's body in a much different state than it was before. Although her body was never back to "normal," she knew there were side effects to her treatment. However, recently she began to have pain in her back that she was concerned about.

After the results of the biopsy, we now know that the cancer is back- stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in one of the bones in her back. It is metastatic meaning that it is the same cancer it was before, except just in another location. Because of that, this cancer is not curable and she will likely have to undergo treatment for the rest of her life to try and maintain it the best she possibly can.

I know that some of us may have direct experience with how a disease like cancer can affect a life and a family's life, but some of us do not. It is hard to know what to say, what to do, and how to help. One aspect that stood out to me last time was the cost of all the treatment Rebecca needed to have. It is such an enormous burden on top of all of the other things a cancer diagnoses can bring. Trips back and forth to the hospital and treatment have already begun. They are working again with the same doctors at Dana Farber and will also try an alternative form of treatment known as a Rife machine at some point. The Rife is not something that insurance will cover.

That is where I'm asking for your help! Every little bit helps to lessen the financial burden for this family. Since this is not the first experience with cancer for them, I'm sure the thought of what they know is to come is extremely overwhelming. I hope that this can help ease that, even by just a small amount.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your help. I am hoping to keep this a surprise so if you share on social media, please try to do so privately. I am asking that everyone who donates sends a message to my email to accompany your donation. Please use the email link that can be reached by clicking on my contact name at the top right of this page.

I will put a little book together with all the messages from the donations and give it to them at the same time. Even if you cannot donate, please feel free to send a message and I will add it to the book as well!

Again, thank you so much for reading and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to my email.

Thank you all!

Emily

P.S. big thank you to Juliette Halsey for all of the amazing photos on this page!
