Hi my name is Karl Matthews and I am trying to raise money for my mum Kim Gould. Kim is 60 years of age and in 1998 was doing cross country horse riding , where she fell off and broke her back at t5/t6/t7 and was confined to a wheelchair as a paraplegic. Its been 23 years and Kim has never given up on trying to get her life back on track by searching all over the planet for Spinal injured recovery for paraplegics but has not found anything worth while until now. Epidural stimulation is an experimental therapy that has the potential to help individuals with spinal cord injuries, including paraplegics , to regain movement and control that had been lost. It involves implanting a small device over the protective coating of the spinal cord. Kim has been talking with the treatment centre in the united states and all is positive for Kim to be able to go over and has been offered a place to participate in their ongoing clinical trial .Me and my Mum are asking for your help to fund her going over to the research centre once a month to monitor her progress after the surgery and funding for Intensive rehab. This trial is not only for her but to give paraplegics hope and a better future by putting her self out there to take part in this trial . So far the results are very very positive and patients are getting voluntary movements of the legs and getting positive improvements in bladder and bowel functions thus greatly improving their quality of life .To see the details of the clinical trial please visit  www.estand.org  If we all stand together and can give a Mother , a Grandmother and in general a beautiful, determined and independent woman a way to make her life so much easier and more fulfilling, then I know we can do anything in life if we just believe. As well as us asking you all to donate and help , Myself and my stepson max between us  will be taking on the task of Rowing the distance of the  Atlantic  on a Rowing machine from Portsmouth UK to Port - Cartier in Canada to then move over to a cycle machine to cycle to Hennepin county Medical Centre in Minnesota , covering a distance of 4000 miles. We will be aiming to reach our destination within 2 weeks. The hole fundraiser will be live streamed and miles will be updated after every stretch for all to see. If we are lucky enough to reach our goal all extra money will be donated to the Health centre to help with research and get more spinal injured people their life back.
