If you know Adam, you know the kind of man he is. He is the guy who shows up without being asked, the one who holds everyone else together, the first to lend a hand or drop everything to help someone in need. Adam has spent his life taking care of others — his family, his friends, his farm, and his community. Now, he needs us.
On the evening of Wednesday, May 20th, Adam headed out to the fields to quickly check the corn. Something he had done countless times before. When he hadn’t returned home after some time, Sidney asked Cole to go look for him. Sidney and the kids searched one direction while Cole went the other. Along the edge of the field, Cole found Adam’s four-wheeler laying on its side. Nearby lay Adam, conscious but unable to move his lower half or his hands. Adam was airlifted by Mayo One to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he underwent emergency imaging and an almost 5-hour surgery. Doctors initially feared his spinal cord had been partially severed based on the initial scans, and the family was told there would likely be permanent damage. Adam is currently in the Neuro ICU with a skull fracture, concussion, fractures to his C4 and C5 vertebrae, which were surgically fused, a fractured sternum and a broken rib. What doctors originally feared of a severed spinal cord may instead be a severely bruised and strained spinal cord after follow-up scans after surgery, but only time will tell. Adam is receiving around-the-clock care while doctors work to manage his pain and closely monitor every sign of progress.
For the man who lives and breathes farming, hunting, skiing, and the outdoors, the possibility of losing his independence has been devastating. But amid the heartbreak, there has already been a glimmer of hope as Adam was able to wiggle his toes shortly after coming out of surgery. At this point, no one truly knows what the outcome will look like.
As Adam, Sidney, and their children begin facing the long road ahead, we are asking for prayers, support, and help easing the overwhelming financial burden this accident has created. Donations will go directly toward medical expenses, rehabilitation, travel costs, lost income, and supporting the Greden family as they navigate the unknown days ahead. Most of all, we ask for continued prayers for healing, strength, and hope.
