Amber is a mom, a wife, a sister and daughter. She's a granddaughter, an aunt, a cousin and a friend.

And now, SHE'S A SUPERHERO. Why?

Here it is in her own words:

"There are a few things in life that that happen that make you realize that you can never return to normal. 7 months ago I became sick and it was 4 months ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Classic Hodgkins Lymphoma. 4 months ago I heard the words I never thought I’d hear. Cancer.

4 months ago my life was turned upside down. 4 months ago I didn’t know if I would see my sons 5th birthday. My job was suddenly gone. My reflection became a stranger. My mind and thoughts turned against me. It was dark. I felt that a piece of glass was up now up between me and everything I loved. Anger became my worst enemy. I felt so mad at the world, but mostly myself.

But I wasn’t lost. My doctor took me by the hand and told me that they will do whatever is necessary to heal me. The nursing staff who gave me my intense chemo regimen every 2 weeks always answered any question I had while keeping a genuinely happy smile on their faces. A wonderful husband who told me everyday I was beautiful even when I didn’t have any hair on my head. A son who hugged and cuddled me on my bad days to tell me I was his best friend ever and he loved me. And so many more family and friends who stayed by my side ever step of the way to keep my spirits high.

So when you finally accept that things will never go back to normal it becomes a liberating experience. No the pain and anxiety do not instantly vanish, but the confidence and hope you gain make your foundation stronger to face and shape your new normal. I still have at least 3 months of treatment ahead of me and even when I am healed there is a real chance it might return and follow me for the rest of my life, but this experience is now apart of my new normal and has created a fighter within me.
