Deyla's emergency surgery support

Donation protected
On March 31, my good friend Deyla Antonin (@thedeyla) had four emergency procedures performed on her at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and needs support as she heals and awaits her results. She spent four nights in the hospital, and a tumor measuring 37cm in length was removed, along with an ovary, her appendix, and her omentum. She is still waiting to find out if the tumor was malignant or benign.

As a freelance stylist, production assistant, and all-around film/video creative, Deyla could not take on a full workload leading up to the surgery due to her work's physical nature and the tumor’s size. Despite her discomfort/pain leading up to it, she continued to push through, working as much as possible. Now that her surgeon has instructed her to avoid physically demanding tasks or lifting more than 10 lbs for 6-8 weeks, she cannot work and requires help with some of her daily chores.

This all came at a challenging time for Deyla. Due to a loss of employment in December 2020, she had to move back to Toronto from New York, where she lived for four years. Of course, it took time to find/furnish an apartment and reestablish work connections, but arriving at the start of a lengthy lockdown made it even more challenging. Although work eventually picked up, she was underemployed for several months after her arrival. She had been working on paying off her credit cards, but is now 1.5 months behind on rent and is unfortunately ineligible for EI sickness benefits.

I have known Deyla since we were 11 years old, and she is one of the most selfless and caring people I know. She is very generous with her money, time, and energy, regardless of what she is dealing with in her own life. I hope we can redirect a small portion of what she puts out into the world back to her during this time of need.

Goal Breakdown = $5500
  • 3 months rent @ $1000/month = $3000
  • $2500 for rest of expenses (internet, phone, credit card payments, groceries for Deyla and her cat Pound, prescription medications, transportation to and from appointments, therapy, GoFundMe fees)

Although anyone close to Deyla undoubtedly knows that she rarely asks for or accepts help, she is welcoming friends who can lend a hand with any of the following to reach out to her:
  • Cooking or bringing meals over
  • Attending hospital appointments with her
  • Running errands, including grocery shopping
  • Going to the laundromat with her and assisting with other tasks that involve lifting

Thank you for taking the time to read, donate, and share. Deyla and I are very grateful for whatever you can offer! ♥️
