Dexter the Blue Heelers Lifesaving Surgery (Now Closed)
Donation protected

Hi my name is Dan, based in Melbourne, Australia and I’m the dad of Dexter the Blue Heeler. Dexter is a 3 and a half year old who is very active, happy and full of love and affection. Dexter has been diagnosed with a very rare parasite called proliferative sparganosis, an uncommon condition found in dogs. It is believed he has caught this parasite from a frog. I’m raising funds to assist with Dexters surgery and ultimately his recovery from this illness. Dexter is being seen by the staff at Greencross Vets through the University of Melbourne. Dexter has every reason to undergo his surgery to remove this parasite given he has a clean bill of health for all his internal organs, is young and otherwise a very healthy boy. The surgery would entail biopsy of the parasite for definitive diagnosis and treatment, removal of the parasite and treatment ongoing. It is a rare thing for me to ask for help but for Dexter I will do anything I can to help him. The surgery is between 4-6k, a big cost but worth it because it will not only give Dexter the chance he needs to pull though but also for further research, knowledge and development in dealing with this parasite should (heaven forbid) any other dog and their owner go though such a trauma as this. Knowledge is power and prevention is key. If you can please help in anyway by donating, it would be most greatly appreciated, regular updates will be posted on my Instagram account with daily posts of Dexter. @dan_fitt85
