Saturday August 26th, 2023 at 3:02Pm Dexter Woods Sr took his final breaths. The family would love to send him out the way he wanted to but the financial burden is ever growing and stressful. Anything helps at this time, if you could drop a dime in the hat it would be appreciated. The date of his service is currently tentative and will be updated, depending on how this fundraising campaign goes. Thank you all for every call, text and hug you have shared with us all.
We gotta get Big Dexter back to Oklahoma to be buried with his brothers and mother.
*** Dexter Woods Sr was born in San Francisco, Ca on October 8th, 1947. In the late 60s to early 70s he became involved in the Civil Rights movement. Starting off trying to feed school children who were going to school hungry, he advanced in the ranks of the Black Panther Party to Captain. Many of his colleagues still call him that to this day. He continued this fight to the end trying to help minorities, homeless and anybody faced with disadvantages.
He went on to direct the San Francisco Juneteenth Festival for 33 years operating out of the basement of his home in North Oakland. He is survived by his wife Diane, daughters Anastasia & Maya, sons Ramon & Dexter Jr and a laundry list of grandchildren, cousins, nephews and friends from all corners of the globe. ***
We thank you all for everything, see you soon.
