Dex the Adventure Dog's Medical Bills

Hello, our names are Brett and Jackie, (Brett currently speaking). Our dog, Dexter, has been like a son to us for the entirety of our relationship. Jackie rescued him as a puppy in 2010 and he's been my boy since 2013. He is one of the sweetest, goofiest, most adventurous dogs you could ever meet. Being half beagle (half Boston Terrier), he is also a very adventurous eater. But, there in lies the issue...

His dietary indiscretion has left him with an upset stomach in the past, usually a couple of days of vomiting and fasting, but earlier this week he was diagnosed with pancreatitis and kidney disease. He stopped eating on Sunday, and after attempting boiled chicken, rice and pedialyte, by Tuesday morning he had stopped drinking water entirely. That afternoon, Dex had a seizure and we rushed him to the vet where they ran the necessary tests and administered subcutaneous fluids.

On Wednesday morning, after taking medication for nausea, Dexter ate a little bit of chicken and rice. On Wednesday afternoon, we got the test results back and, as of writing this on Friday, Feb. 4, he hasn't eaten since. He was back at the vet this morning to receive more subcutaneous fluids and an antibiotic injection for the pancreatitis, but he still will not eat and is down from 27 lbs to 23.6.

This month, February of 2022, Dexter turns 12 years old. We should have and we need several more years with him. Even at an older age, he has never slowed down and still acts like a puppy, up until this week. He frequently races down the stairs and hurdles any furniture in his path. He has scaled mountains, doggy paddled Pacific waves, raced down sand dunes, and always finds the most massive stick he can find to proudly march down the path with.

We are asking friends, family and strangers to please help us combat the medical expenses we will continue to accrue. We are not prepared for the staggering cost of repeated ultrasounds and treatments. If we need to skip mortage payments to keep him as healthy as he can be, we absolutely will, but we hope and pray that the kindness and generosity of you all will come through for him.

If you are in a position to help, please donate. If enough people donate, we could give Dexter many more years of joy and adventure. We truly appreciate any and all donations from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you!
Brett, Jackie and Dexter
