Dewey Hilton’s Care
I am looking to raise funds and prayers for my close friend Dewey Hilton who was in a near fatal car accident on the evening of June 19, 2021. He is 30 years old and the most loving and giving person that I know.
Dewey is a Riverside native. His family has lived in the same house on Rutherford Drive for three generations. So when Dewey was hospitalized last Saturday, after his vehicle was T-boned on his way home with his daughter to spend Father’s Day, word quickly spread through the neighborhood.
He was rushed to Atlanta Medical Center, arriving in a coma, and we really weren’t sure he would survive. His 15 month daughter has only minor injuries. He has spent the last week in an induced coma, and on a ventilator. His face is severely damaged and will have to be completely rebuilt. When they admitted him his teeth were in his throat.
But I am happy to say that he is improving and his Aunt Dianne reported today that he is mildly conscious and somewhat aware of his surroundings. He is not able to speak and will not be able to for at least six weeks.
His surgeon is optimistic about his condition but has said it will take many months to recover from the brain and body trauma. It is going to take many months and significant amounts of human and financial resources for his care.
Many of you remember Dewey Sr. who spent hours bicycling around the neighborhood in the evenings. Dewey Sr. passed away three years ago in an accident. Dewey’s mother has been passed away for years.
Dewey’s family network now consists of his three aunts, his daughter and his two pets.
I have been a close friend of Dewey for eight years and spend at least one day a week with him. I was also close to his father. I have created a GoFundMe page to help cover some of the expenses that Dewey will encounter. I will be matching every donation – 50c for every dollar, up to $3,000.
All funds raised will be turned over to his aunts who are acting as his caretaker and custodians for his personal affairs. It will be wisely used.
Dewey and his family will need significant help to get through this challenging time. Donations from you, his family, and friends are the only way he will survive. If you are not able to donate, please flood heaven with your prayers for his mental and physical recovery.
