Devon’s Life Journey With The NICU

I will be raising money because my grandson spend his first few months in NICU. The staff were brilliant with him and I’m trying to raise money to pay back and help others who are in a similar situation. Devon was born and had to be resuscitated within minutes several times. Due to this he had brain damage, peg fed as didn’t have the ability to swallow and he needed oxygen regular along with suction in his mouth to remove saliva. Soon after birth he was blue lighted to Nottingham hospital where he was for a few months. He was kept in a incubator for what seemed like for ever. We wasn’t allowed cuddles as he was covered in tubes and wires everywhere. All we could do was hold his hand through a hole. After a few months he was transferred to Lincoln where he spent another long stay. Finally he was well enough to be discharged once all the family had been taught how to suction etc. He was only given 24 hours but he fought every single day and was getting stronger. Unfortunately when he was 9 months he stopped breathing at home. We did cpr while waiting for ambulance. They arrived very quickly and took over from us. Blue lighted him to hospital giving him cpr all the way. Although they never gave up they couldn’t bring him back and he passed away 20/12/19. As if this wasn’t bad enough due to COVID we had to wait a year to have his funeral. QMC were absolutely fantastic with him and I hope that I can raise as much as I can to help families going through this awful time. Thanks for reading and your support.
