Devon Ruh Brain Cancer Fund

My best friend Devon Ruh was diagnosed with brain cancer on January 2nd of this year.

On that day, Devon was on her way to work when she got t-boned by another car. After going into the ER for a suspected concussion, she was shocked when doctors instead discovered a very life threatening brain tumor wrapped around her brain stem.

On August 11th Devon underwent a surgical biopsy. The prognosis was not what we were hoping for. The tumor is more aggressive than previously thought. We also learned that it’s unlikely to respond to treatment and is inoperable. This surgery was high risk and difficult to recover from. It resulted in a numb foot and tongue, mobility issues that she’s still dealing with today and will undergo PT to hopefully resolve.

(Official diagnosis is Astrocytoma, grade 2, IDH wildtype, and does not have MGMT promoter methylation status.)

If Devon’s tumor grows a fraction of a centimeter larger it will result in irreversible neurological damage. Our only hope is, that with Devon undergoing chemo and radiation there’s a chance they can  prevent her tumor from growing any larger and perhaps shrink it a bit, in exchange, buying her some more time on this Earth.

On October 15th, Devon began a combination of chemo and radiation, which she will do for the next 6 weeks. And then, from there another 6 months of chemotherapy.

Devon comes from a very humble, close and loving family. She is the youngest of 5 daughters. Being an aunt to her 4 nieces and nephew means everything to her. She has been working at a company she loves for 4 years now and was promoted to team lead (supervisor), a position she had been working towards for years, right before her devastating diagnosis.

Before cancer, Devon was loving her life. When she was 18 years old, she was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, and was finally successfully managing it. All of that changed after her diagnosis. With all of this coinciding perfectly with a pandemic, it’s made it all the more difficult to deal with.

As a result Devon is left with an unforeseen future and medical debt. Because of her complex cancer and need for specialty care at the Mayo Clinic, her health insurance does not cover all of her costs.

My intentions are to raise funds in order to help Devon cover her share of these medical costs.

Not in one million years we thought this was what Devon’s life would look like at 27 years old. Devon is such a bright light on this earth. She is a goddess in every way. She is beautiful, intelligent, funny, a hard worker, and so caring. We want her to focus on her right now and her journey, and not be instead crippled by medical debt. No one should have to go through something like that.

Please help her in the fight for her life. She is my best friend. I’ve known her since the 7th grade and I’m crying writing this. She deserves better than this. It would mean everything to me and everyone who loves this girl, if anyone can donate, literally a single dollar makes a difference and/or

She is too strong and independent to ask for help, but she’s been suffering alone with this disease for 10 months now and I know she needs all the help in the world. I have faith in our human family! We love you so much Devon ❤️
