Devin and Becca

This is a story of love. This story starts with two young people coming together. Though life wasn’t always easy, in each other they found home. In time, these two were to be become parents, and though this was unexpected, it ignited an exciting journey of hope. Devin and Becca came together and carried this beloved child with courage, dedication and tender teamwork. They quickly learned to lean on one another in grace as they prepared for their own little family to emerge. In this story Devin and Becca rose to the challenge, and they blossomed more in a year than most people do in a decade. In late October, a baby boy was welcomed- Daxton Michael Robert Dunlop. Middle named for both grandpas, Daxton was born on the same birthday as 2 of his uncles! The entire family was smitten by this perfect little boy, and most smitten of all were his parents. This little light ignited something within his parents that I’m not sure they knew they had. They stepped up to the plate and never backed down. Daxton was rocked, and kissed and attentively cared for each and every day. He knew the voices of his Mama and Daddy from across the room, turning towards them joyfully. And the smiles! Oh, the sweet baby smiles. I have never seen a babe so quick to smile and keep smiling. Our family could not be more proud of little Daxton.  A few days after Christmas the unimaginable happened, baby Daxton dozed off to sleep and never woke up. Devin and Becca arose to every parent’s single gravest nightmare - their little light was without breath or heartbeat. Mama hysterically called emergency services while Dad desperately performed CPR. Daxton was rushed off to the hospital with family from all over the province gathering towards them, in person and prayer, but this precious little soul couldn’t be brought back to us.                          This part of the story isn’t easy to read, or to write, but it’s real. Daxton was a gift to our family whose early departure has taken a piece of each of us up to Heaven with him. I promised this is a story of love, and it is. It’s a story of the love that connected this new growing family. It’s a story of how adored Daxton was by all of us who knew him, and how loved he’ll always be. And it’s a story of a new love that is now needed for Devin and Becca.                                                                                         This could never have been anticipated, and above and beyond the devastation and trauma is now also the added financial burden of extensive therapy/counselling, living support during inexplicable grief, and hardest of all, planning a memorial service for a smiley little babe who should still be in his parents’ arms. I ask this humbly, without expectation and yet with great hope, that others might consider joining us in surrounding Devin and Becca with support for the hardest journey of their lives. This is only the beginning, and the road ahead is long. Together let’s surround Devin and Becca with support- anything you might be able to spare. In a world where disconnect has become expected, I invite you to join us in connection and community. Let’s extend what we can towards them in faith and with hope. May our contributions together build a wall of love around them, creating a safe place for them to tend their broken hearts. And let’s pray for the day that Devin and Becca will be able to walk about again in courage, carrying that pure light that Daxton brought them and possessing the strength to share it with the world in his honor.
