Devlyn's YWAM Australia Fund
Donation protected
My name is Devlyn McClelland. From the suburbs of Chicago, and currently living in a suburb of Newcastle, Australia called Mayfield with Youth With A Mission. I absolutely love it here, even when it will get 120 degrees out.
During the summer of 2016 God placed on my heart a desire to serve Him and people, which led me to my decision to take a gap year after I complete my high school education. My father spent his college years serving with Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) and had many friends and contacts who provided suggestions on different opportunities to consider. After prayer and investigation God lead me to choose Youth With A Mission (YWAM).
I chose to do the Discipleship Training Program with YWAM, which is a six-month program with people from all around the world. The first three months are based in Newcastle, Australia where I spend my time learning about God and enjoying fellowship with people. I will also have the opportunity to serve in street ministry. During the first three months I will receive my location for the next three months. The last three months are what is called Outreach Phase; there I will serve the people of whatever location I'm assigned to. It is there that I will spend 8-10 weeks spreading the gospel to the unreached and learning to live cross-culturally.
So why YWAM and/or Australia? To be honest with you, I don’t have some amazing story of how God drastically told me this is what I need to do. At the end of Junior year, I didn’t feel God calling me to go to college and pursue my academic career. A gap year wasn’t a serious thought until my father mentioned it. Australia kept coming up again and again throughout the end of Junior year and summer. I looked for other places to take my gap year such as Africa and South America but when I prayed about it God made it pretty clear that YWAM and Australia is where I needed to be. I chose to do YWAM because I wanted to learn more about God and His word, but also what He says about evangelism. Having gone on missions’ trips, I realized I didn’t know what I was really doing… other than playing with kids, which is great! That’s how we show God’s love, but YWAM offers me the chance to learn how God wants us to showcase Him not rudely but with love. It also gives me the opportunity to practice evangelizing how God requests of us.
I would like to invite you to participate with me in this ministry through prayer and finical support. My goal is to raise $7,000 which is roughly 70% of the total cost. The remainder of the funds needed will be earned by me or from the help of my family. My targets are:
- $1,000 by January 31st
- $3,000 by April 1st
-$5,000 by June 1st
-$7,000 by October 1st
For a $5 donation, you will receive handwritten thank you notes to your home.
Thank you for considering my request, and I thank you in advance for your support.
