Devin's 4th battle with Leukemia
Devin is a 9-year old funny, intelligent and kind little boy. He has 2 older sisters, Tessa (age 13) and Ainsley (age 12), and a younger sister, Brielle (age 7). In June 2016, Devin was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He immediately began treatment; which consisted of chemotherapy through his port, chemo through his spine during lumbar puncture procedures, nightly chemo pills, and monthly rounds of high-dose steroids. He was in treatment for three years when he relapsed in March 2019, as they found cancer cells in his spinal fluid. He had to endure aggressive chemo and brain radiation to get him back into remission. While still in treatment, Devin relapsed again in August 2020, as they found cancer cells in his bone marrow and spinal fluid. CAR T-cell therapy did not work for Devin because his t-cells had been so damaged from all of the chemo and radiation over the years. So the only plan left for Devin was whole body radiation and a bone marrow transplant. On April 15, 2021, Devin received a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor who was a perfect match to Devin. The bone marrow transplant was a success for Devin, and things were going well throughout the summer. But on day +139 after the transplant, on Sept. 1, 2021, the doctors found that the leukemia cells had returned his Devin's bone marrow. Devin is now in his 4th battle with blood cancer. It's been a tough 5-year journey for Devin. We are raising money to help us with medical expenses for Devin. The plan is for Devin to do CAR t-cell therapy. Since Devin's t-cells are now his donor's t-cells, this therapy should work now. It has to work. We need Devin to be cancer free.
